Alcova Reservoir Description

Take U.S. 220 southwest from Casper. Access is from county roads 406 or 407. This reservoir supports six campgrounds, eight boat ramps, an interpretive trail and marina concession. Available fish species in the lake include brown trout, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout and walleye. The Bureau of Reclamation's Alcova Reservoir has campgrounds, picnic areas, boat ramps, beaches, a marina, full-hookup campsites and hiking trails. A barrier-free fishing pier, restroom, and shelter are located at Black Beach. As throughout the Rocky Mountains, the climate varies drastically depending on elevation. Summers generally offer warm clear days with cool nights. Afternoon thunderstorms are often a possibility in the summer. In the winter, sunshine, with plenty of snow in the higher elevations, are ideal for winter activities. Harsh weather - including wind, cold, and snow - is possible throughout the winter and even throughout the year, in the highest elevations.
